Teesside awarded 'biggest' Freeport
Wed 3rd March 2021
THE Chancellor has announced that the bid to set up the UK’s first and biggest freeport in Teesside has been given the green light and will result in a 'tsunami' of jobs in the region
The bid, submitted to Government just a month ago by Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen, covers sites across the region, including several in our Lieutenancy area.
The Teesside Freeport will create, reportedly, 18,000 skilled, good-quality jobs within five years, boost the local economy by £3.4billion and support offshore wind, clean energy, chemicals and process, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
We would like to offer Ben Houchen and his team our warmest congratulations on this amazing success for the region, and we look forward to seeing it develop over the next few years.
